Ashley Mitchell
Office Manager, Guest Services Coordinator and Registrar

Greetings from the Big Sandy Camp Office! My name is Ashley Mitchell and I’ve been on staff here at BSC for two years filling the roles of Office Manager, Guest Services Coordinator, and Registrar. You may be wondering, what do all of those position titles mean? The basic explanation is that if anyone wants to come to camp for any reason, or if they have any questions about camp, they get to talk to me. A little over two and a half years ago I was finishing up my senior year of college and trying to figure out what God had next for me. For this Philadelphia native I never would have thought in a million years that I would end up half way across the country in the middle of nowhere Minnesota, but God has a funny sense of humor. The past two years at Big Sandy have had their challenges, but God has used them to teach me so many things about myself, about Himself, about ministry, and that camp ministry is definitely where He wants me to be.

I love the fact that camp can have an impact on kids that nothing else can. Camp is a place where, for some reason, kids feel like they can be super vulnerable and let down their walls. It is such an amazing experience to sit in the back of a camp chapel and see how the Holy Spirit is moving around the room. I have grown up going to and working at camp, and there have been numerous times that I have been brought to tears seeing the power and feeling the presence of the Holy Spirit. I love when I am able to sneak away from the office for a little bit and spend time pouring into our campers and staff.

One of my favorite aspects of my job is working with our guest groups and getting to build relationships with them. I love getting to know people and their stories, and I love being able to assist people in getting away for a bit to focus on their relationships with God and one another. Another prominent aspect of my job being in the office is to make registration easy and painless. I have been working with our camp software through a lot of changes over the past two years and am excited to see where they are headed, and how it is going to make our online registration process easier for users. It has been slow moving, but we are finally starting to get somewhere and I think that people will be pleased with the direction we’re heading.

Working at Big Sandy Camp is an amazing opportunity and gift, one that I am continually trying not to take for granted. God is doing big things here and I am excited to be a part of it!
