Childhood memories can serve as motivators.

Summer camp memories of standing in line at the Snack Shop to buy Jolly Rancher candy sticks or Freeze Pops, carrying a sled to the top of the water slide, hiking up Blueberry Hill for afternoon activities, getting placed in Bald Eagle.

Family camp memories of St. Croix Corner shared with many families from our church, homemade ice cream, the “oohs” and “aahs” of 4th of July fireworks on the beach, falling asleep in the tent while listening to the adults talk with the campfire crackling.

Winter camp memories of broomball, snow football, trying to see how many cartons of milk we could drink at our table, staying up late in the lodge working on puzzles and eating a multitude of “puppy chow” and caramel popcorn and, of course, the tubing hill.

I categorize the memories I’ve shared as “experiential” but there are also “spiritual” memories. Feeling the tug to seek God’s will, following His prompting to rededicate my life, standing to say “I am committed!” These spiritual memories helped solidify my relationship with Christ, but for many others, it is their introduction to who Christ is and the love that He has for them!

That is a motivator that truly matters.

This life-changing impact serves as the foundation for why Big Sandy Camp exists. Through my role as Director of Development, I look forward to sharing these stories of life-change as a motivator to build the network of those willing to partner with Big Sandy Camp.
